By 1879 when this house was built, the Federal style in the United States had been supplanted by other styles for almost a half-century. This house shares many of the features of the Federal style as well as the Greek Revival style such as the rectangular transom and Scamozzi Ionic columns. An original spandrel inside of the transom is a nod to the Gothic Revival style, and the corbels and third-floor entablature indicate the influence of the Italianate style. The recent re-imagining of the entire house resulted in approximately 3,032 square feet of finished living space with elegant proportions in a preserved, historic exterior. The first floor offers a contemporary feeling including the kitchen, living room, dining area, and powder room. Light is introduced on a north-south axis, and there is an uninterrupted view into the garden. The second floor has two principal suites with adjoining bathrooms in addition to a laundry room. The third floor offers two bedrooms and one bathroom, also with views into the garden. On the lower level, there is one bedroom and one bathroom, with a family room, wet bar, and laundry.
