Property Description
Extremely rare two story Georgian Colonial style home overlooking the Christina River and 73 acre park with walking trails. This home site is rich with history. Situated on a cul-de-sac street featuring a 0.61 acre lot. This home offers a tremendous setting from the minute you pull up. The home includes tremendous living space on all levels. The main level features include: family room, formal living room with fireplace, formal dining room, kitchen with nice cabinet space opening to a huge sunroom with cathedral ceiling, skylights, ceiling fan and tile floor. The main level also offers a second sunroom and large workshop with heat pump. The upper level includes a master suite with 3 closets & newly renovated bath. Also, featured on the upper level is an updated hall bath and three additional bedrooms. The lower level features a custom rec room, craft area, full bath and tons of storage. Notable updates include: roof, heater, central air, windows and garage door. Other exterior highlights include: turned two car garage, huge driveway, treed lot, and stone fire-pit overlooking the Christiana River. Some of the history of this location includes the first iron mills in Delaware, and in colonial America. It was called the James' Furnace. The mill was purchased by Andrew Fisher, who expanded the mill and built the house across the street (circa 1740). Part of the original stone mill pond dam, sluice gate, and mill race still exists behind 722 Art Lane. The Fishers supported the war of independence, and supplied material from their mills. General Cornwallis briefly occupied the Fisher house, and quartered troops in the front yard. Years later (1840's), there were also a grist mill, and lumber mill, and a match and fireworks factory here. There was a large brick barn in the front yard, that caught fire while filled with matches and fireworks. The bar was lost, but the Fisher House was saved. This home is a rare find and is ready for a new owner.
